Sports Scholarships For Students Who Love Football

According to new data from the United States Census Bureau, children and teens are more involved in sports than they were 15 years ago. In 2014, the most recent year for which statistics are available, 42 percent of children aged 6 to 17 engaged in athletics, compared to 36 percent in 1998. Over the same time frame, the percentage of children who took lessons outside of the normal school day increased marginally to 30% from 29%.

According to Brian Knop, a family demographer with the Census Bureau's fertility and family statistics division, "participation in extracurricular activities is commonly regarded as a way to help children improve social skills and become involved in their group." “There is growing concern that children are spending more time on computers than on sports fields in the era of smartphones, tablets, and other computer devices.”

Football scholarships are one of the most competitive areas of sports scholarship competitions, but full scholarships are more popular in football than in any other sport. Since these scholarships are highly governed by the NCAA, a great deal of focus is put on not only talent but also academic performance, as all scholarship recipients must meet certain GPA standards.

Many major state universities are well-known for their academic programs, research programs, alumni networks, and football! Being a member of a college football team entails being a part of the school's heritage and spirit. Finding a football scholarship, on the other hand, can be extremely difficult. Athletes must please not only scouts, coaches, and recruiters, but also the college admissions committee with their GPA. Football players will get NCAA scholarships if they have a strong balance of talent and academics. Also, many of these awards require a minimum GPA.

Consult your coach and see what choices are open to you, and don't forget to look through our scholarship list for college football scholarships.

Recruiters from many larger schools are aware of talent on high school football fields, and selling your abilities has become an integral part of obtaining a football scholarship. Those selected for complete rides at the major universities should consider themselves part of an elite group of athletes since it is a high-profile sport that is often used to raise funds from alums. However, in schools where football is not a way of life and academics are valued more highly, it might be easier to not only get on the team but also compete for scholarship money. Don't rule out smaller schools when allocating available funds based on factors such as need.
