Some of the same financial aid options available to U.S. citizens are also available to overseas students at Westminster. Foreign student financial aid application from all backgrounds is eligible for these programs, regardless of where they live. In addition, you may be eligible for a student financial aid application if you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident.

Westminster does not offer full-cost scholarships or grants, and there is no combination of Westminster scholarships plus the Griffin Grant that will pay your whole education costs. If the financial aid you receive from Westminster does not cover all of your expenses, you can look for other funding sources such as private scholarships, non-U.S. government loans, and so on.

International first-year and transfer students are immediately eligible for Westminster scholarships based on merit upon acceptance to Westminster. These grants will be chosen based on their prior academic achievements for student financial assistance applications.

Student Financial Aid Disbursement

A disbursement is the act of a school making a payment to a student in federal student aid. Federal student aid is typically disbursed to students in two or more installments. Students that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement are eligible for this award.

Candidates for the Honors Academic Excellence Scholarship who will be first-year overseas students in the Honors College are eligible to apply. The Honors Lateral-Entry Scholarship is open to international students enrolled in the Honors College. Following is the process of student financial aid application.

Eligibility

The lender determines whether or not a student is eligible for an alternative student loan. If you apply for a loan with a co-signer who is a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident, you may be eligible for loans sponsored by U.S. lenders. An application self-certification form will be provided to you by the lender.

Apply for a Scholarship

For information on applying, speak with the lender of your choosing. The FAST Choice website includes more information on alternative loans and a list of lenders with whom Westminster has previously worked. You may only be qualified for a limited number of these loans, so do your research before applying.

Online applications are available from the majority of lenders. Before applying for an alternative loan, Westminster urges you to look into all available funding options. When applying for a loan, be sure to thoroughly review all of the terms and conditions.

Testing for Admission

Non-native English speakers in the United States must take the TOEFL exam, and many undergraduate institutions also need the SAT or ACT exam. To learn more about the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL goes to StudentAid.gov/prepare-for-college/tests and www.toefl.org.

Visas for International Students

On a tourist visa, you can take a short course of study of fewer than 18 hours per week if you are visiting the United States primarily for tourism. If you don't have a student visa, you'll need to apply for one. A face-to-face interview is necessary for most first-time student visa applicants for student financial aid applications.
