This scholarship supports ākonga Māori for study towards a research doctoral degree at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. Candidates who have been selected for a UC Core Doctoral Scholarship are automatically considered for the UC Matariki Doctoral Scholarship; no application is required.

Benefits

Financial assistance at a value of $28,000 per 120 points of thesis enrolment. Tuition fees for thesis enrolment only, at the Aotearoa New Zealand domestic rate. Admission to Te Punenga programme offered through Te Waka Pākākano | Office of Māori, Pacific, and Equity and the Māori Student Development Team.

Application

An application for admission to a doctoral programme is considered an application for these scholarships. No further application is necessary or possible, except in the following cases: A student currently enrolled in a master’s programme who intends to transfer to a doctoral programme and wishes to be considered for the scholarships. A student who was not offered a UC Doctoral Scholarship and wishes to be considered for the scholarship for a second time. Such applications may be made only on the basis of information that was unavailable at the time of first consideration, within six months of notification that the student will not be offered a scholarship. Only one application for such reconsideration is accepted.
